Job Summary
The Associate Director is responsible for driving the Department’s efforts toward “proactive suspecting”. Her/his principal focus will be on mining all of the incoming sources at the Department’s disposal to search for new Suspects to be presented to the fundraising teams for review and possible assignment. This person will be considered a Team Leader for overseeing the influx of Suspects into the CHOP Enterprise, as well as to explore new sources for names. She/he will conduct in-depth research for Hospital Leadership; Foundation Leadership; and fundraisers as assigned, and will also help to write blurbs for the Event SARS. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Job Responsibilities
As the Team Leader for proactive suspecting, the Associate Director will - on a daily basis - ensure that the following areas are reviewed, as applicable to the specific portfolio, and will push out new suspect names as they are uncovered for contact and possible assignment to a Director of Development (DoD), member of the Concierge Services team, or a member of the Institutional and Events Fundraising team:
  • Daily Patient Census Reviews, including current inpatients and future, prescheduled appointments
  • Daily review and assignment recommendations of newly identified donors with a preliminary rating of $1 million and up
  • International names (provide preliminary research and share with the Director of Prospect Research for appropriate vetting)
  • Emerging sources in the field of Prospect Research and Development, including initial analytical work within our fundraising databases
  • Corporate and Foundation sources
  • Closely monitor and bubble up news alerts on Individual and Corporate Prospects in relation (but not limited to) new business ventures (company sales, mergers, etc), corporate and civic board assignments appointments, and stock sales
  • Quarterly review and assignment recommendation of patient families, tributees, and highly-rated, unassigned prospects
The Associate Director is tasked with the management of all reactive and proactive Prospect Research for the assigned fundraising teams and will work closely with the group as Prospect Development’s point of contact to the team. She/he will be involved in the Team’s regularly-scheduled meetings. She/he will also mine for new suspects for the assigned teams, including (but not limited to) individual corporations and foundations as well as project-specific suspects that encompass multiple entities.

The Associate Director will support the overall efforts of the fundraising teams; as such, she/he will provide full profiles for Hospital and Foundation Leadership; and fundraising directors.

The Associate Director will write blurbs in support of the SAR reports for the numerous Events held throughout the calendar year, and will also attend pre- and post-event strategy sessions.

The Associate Director will serve as a point of contact for the Prospect Development department for Social Media activities, including utilizing social media as another source of potential Suspect names to be presented for assignment.

The Associate Director will serve as a liaison between the Prospect Development and Data Services teams. She/he will continue to monitor and request updates from the Data Services team when necessary.
